In an effort to prevent violence and promote safety this summer in our community, the Block Party event team has agreed to feature activities that will suggest that participants should refer to the games that those of us 35 and up can remember playing as kids such as:
Double Dutch, Roller Skating, Hop Scotch, Red Light Green Light and other activities that will get kids out of the house, away from the computers and video games for some good old fashion family fun!
They also would like to send the message that we should all work together to bring our kids up right.."It takes a village". More ideas about this will be featured at the Block Party.
Special thanks to the Pinewood Lawn Community..they will allow SNC youth to use the swimming pool and to host activities such as games and picnics in their neighborhood as a part of SNC's summer camp. This will also help us to create a fun and safe place for kids in our neighborhood. If you get a chance, please stop by and visit their office to thank them for their support. His office info will be posted soon.
Please email sally.waller@fairfaxcounty.gov with your great ideas about the upcoming Block Party.
Thank you,
Sally B. Waller
For those who arrive early to the Sacramento Block Party this year, you can also count on a nice cup of StarBucks coffee, all courtesy of our Mount Vernon Kiwanis Club.
Their organization will also provide funding for the youth in the Sacramento and Creekside neighborhoods to attend field trips and summer camps. We appreciate their support. More information about summer camps and youth activities for summer break will be shared at our May 2010 open house....We will inform you of the date soon or you can visit our Sacramento page at www.UCMagency.org for our May Calendar. Information about summer camps and other resources are also featured at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/rec.
